| The American Black Hereford Association (ABHA) was founded in 1994 by the late John Gage. The ABHA breeds for more than just color with special attention being focused on fertility. One deciding factor in the selection for bulls that are offered annually by the J and N Ranch is scrotal circumference. The J-B became a Lifetime Member in 2005 and we are continuing to develop the Black Hereford as a breed that consistently produces black hided cattle thereby increasing profitability and maintaining the desirable qualities of the Hereford breed. The ABHA provides a new option for commercial breeders who are looking for a new crossover. One of our herd sires, Sonny (homozygous black), was purchased in 2008 and has been delivering consistent hereford marked calves with the desired eye pigmentation. In February of 2009, the J-B purchased two homozygous black bulls and we are anticipating great calf crops from these bulls as we expand our genetic base. |
